Senior SQL Database Developer (Contract to Perm)
OVERVIEW:
The foundation of our business is data. We are looking for a database developer to join our data team and provide experience in designing, constructing and administering MS SQL, OLTP, MS SSIS, and MS SSRS solutions. Our business leverages data both internally and externally, thus providing a rich experience of blending traditional and mobile data elements into a robust platform.
We're looking for someone with familiar with classic schemas and highly abstracted meta-schemas for OLTP, OLAP and analytics solutions. You should be familiar with OLTP, OLAP ETL and SSRS concepts both in development and support roles. Also, familiarity with sourcing requirements from business units and delivering prototypes and operational solutions using SSAS, SSIS, SSRS and other data centric tools (such as MS Excel) is a plus. This role will contribute to Hipcricket products and to Hipcricket operations. This role is directly responsible for supporting the data architecture, database design, database operations, reporting and analytics solutions. In addition, this person will work within the information architecture platform, understanding the semantics and taxonomy of the business data in a coherent and efficient way to help in the progression from OLTP to analytics.
This individual will work with product management, technology management and senior technical staff. Flexibility is critical. Oral and written communications skills must be excellent. We are looking for a self-starter with the ability to coordinate and collaborate with multiple teams which range from information consumer, to partners, to our internal development teams.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in product definition, work with business and technical staff to research and evaluate requirements, assess alternatives, and implement solutions
- Contribute to overall OLTP/OLAP/ETL platform architecture
- Develop SQL Queries, stored procedures and functions for SQL Server 2000/2005/2008
- Develop star schemas, cubes, calculated measures, and aggregations for SQL SSAS 2008
- Support and sustain existing schema, procedures, queries and functions for SQL Server 2000/2005/2008
- Provide performance turning and optimization for SQL Server 2000/205/2008
- Provide operational support for SQL Server 2000/2005/2008
- Sustain and monitor database standards and best practices
- Provide technical support to developers, testers, operations and other DB staff
- Construct reporting and analytics solutions in SSRS, SSIS
- Contribute to projects, tasks and backlogs, in a SCRUM environment with complex relationships and frequent deliverables
- Ensure quality while driving to release schedules
QUALIFICATIONS:
- MS/BS degree in Computer Science, related technical field preferred or equivalent work experience
- Highly experienced developer in OLTP, OLAP, and ETL development
- Proven ability to create and maintain online (wiki format) and printed documentation
- Proven ability to work cross functionally to deliver appropriate resolution of technical, procedural and operational issues
- Must have stong customer service skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to troubleshoot issue to completion and ensure internal customer satisfaction
- Must be flexible and motivated to work in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with transactional system is required
- Experience with data warehousing technology and/or back-end reporting system required
- Experience with OLAP databases and ETL processes
- Experience with MS SQL 2000/2005/2008 database schemas, procedures, queries and other SQL objects required
- Experience with XML in SQL procedures
- Experience with PostgreSQL, Data Cloud Computing, and Open Source Analytics are all a big plus
- Familiarity with Mobile Marketing Analytics, Advertising Analytics or Marketing Analytics desirable
- Familiarity with Agile and SCRUM methodology
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to effectively communicate, collaborate and coordinate with peers and senior management
- Ability to guide, contribute and support process improvement
