Solution

During wildfires, KNBC in Los Angeles teamed with its NBC affiliate in San Diego to encourage viewers to text in the word ‘fire’ to opt in for fire updates, evacuation routes and affected counties.

Results

The stations combined for 18,518 viewer opt-ins over the course of one day. In less than one week, the stations sent out over 246,947 messages to the opted-in group.
